A former fertilizer maker (based in Gonzales) has been sentenced to 1-year in federal prison, for misrepresenting his product.  50-year-old Canadian resident peter townsley pleaded guilty earlier this year to 2-counts of mail fraud, for mailing fake certificates that declared the fertilizer was organic.  Townsley ran his company, “California liquid fertilizer,” from 2000 to 2006, and ultimately sold 6-point-5 million dollars worth of the fraudulent product.   In addition to the prison time, he was fined 125-thousand dollars and ordered to perform 1-thousand hours of community service.
