Montessori plans halted 09/20/12 5p.m. TDH

Plans have been halted to open a Montessori school in santa cruz.     Santa cruz city school district trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to “push pause” on the proposal, which has drawn opposition from some community members because of the amount of funding it would draw away from existing programs.   A planning task force is expected to take up the idea again after the November election, (when the results of proposition-30 will be known).  If prop-30 passes, the local school district will have more funding available than if it fails.  supporters argue that the move could be made at no additional cost to the district, compared to a plan to include a similar educational program at branciforte small schools campus.
