request to Withdraw plea 09/20/12 6:30p.m. TDH
The man convicted of manslaughter for causing the death of a santa cruz woman is now asking to change his plea, and go to trial. Gerald galaway was originally charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection with celestial cassman’s death in September of last year. However, he pleaded no contest under a plea agreement with prosecutors in maui, (where the crime took place). galaway requested this week to withdraw the plea and face a trial. he claims that he was under the influence of medication at the time he made the agreement. 35-year-old celestial cassman was an assistant santa cruz city attorney who lived in the seabright neighborhood. A judge is expected to rule on the matter next week.
