request to Withdraw plea 09/20/12 6:30p.m. TDH

The man convicted of manslaughter for causing the death of a santa cruz woman is now asking to change his plea, and go to trial.  Gerald galaway was originally charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection with celestial cassman’s death in September of last year.    However, he pleaded no contest under a plea agreement with prosecutors in maui, (where the crime took place).  galaway requested this week to withdraw the plea and face a trial.  he claims that he was under the influence of medication at the time he made the agreement.  35-year-old celestial cassman was an assistant santa cruz city attorney who lived in the seabright neighborhood.             A judge is expected to rule on the matter next week.
