MPWMD petition rejected 09/19/12 8a.m. TDH

A petition has been rejected to overturn a rate increase for the monterey peninsula water management district.   the district’s board of directors voted 6 to 1 Monday to deny the petition, declaring that it was invalid.  Among the legal issues board members objected to was a letter that accompanied the petition when it was mailed out, as well as other procedural issues.  The petition was signed by more than 41-hundred district customers, and representatives for the group are reviewing their options.  In the meantime, the rate increase is being implemented, and is expected to raise 3-point-1 million dollars annually.
