THE MONTEREY-SALINAS TRANSIT IS SLATED TO RECEIVE A GRANT IN THE FORM OF 1.7 MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE CLEAN FUELS PROGRAM. THIS DONATION WILL BE USED TO PLACE AN ELECTRIC TROLLEY IN PLACE OF THE CURRENT DIESEL TROLLEY. THIS PROJECT WILL BE THE FIRST OF ITS KIND TO USE NEW WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER TECHNOLOGIES, WHICH ENABLES TROLLEYS TO CHARGE BY SIMPLY PARKING OVER CHARGING STATIONS, AND THE CHARGE ITSELF IS WIRELESSLY TRANSFERRED TO THE VEHICLES. WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER OR WPT TECHNOLOGY WAS DEVELOPED BY UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY’S ENERGY DYNAMICS LABORATORY.
