Salinas Police are investigating why a man fired shots at two strangers, and then called the police himself.    A 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were reportedly drinking in a car in the parking lot at the Point of Harden Ranch Apartments, whey they were approached by a39-year-old Michael Manfull.   Manfull walked up to the vehicle and pulled out a knife while talking to the occupants.  Manfull followed the victims, who moved their car, then drove away and stopped near Kennedy Street.   A red Mustang pulled up and Manfull emerged from the car holding a handgun.   He fired two shots, and then called 911, reporting that the victims were trying to break down his door.  No injuries were reported.   Officers believe Manfull made up the story, and arrested him on one count of attempted homicide.
