Carmel plastic bag ban 06/06/12 7p.m. TDH

Carmel joined the growing number of jurisdictions in california on Tuesday, by banning plastic, single-use bags in the city.  the bag ban allows 6-months for local businesses to use their remaining supply, before merchants must stop offering them.  The measure does not include a tax for a paper bag.  Preliminary approval was given unanimously on tuesday; final approval is expected to come next month.   meanwhile, Monterey county supervisors are considering a plastic bag ban in unincorporated areas of the county.
