GREAT WHITE HAS DIED - 05/11/10 11:18 S.S.

THE  YOUNG  GREAT  WHITE  SHARK,  THAT  THE  MONTEREY  BAY AQUARIUM  RETURNED  TO  THE  WILD  LAST  NOVEMBER,   HAS  DIED.     THAT  AFTER  SHE  WAS  CAUGHT  IN  A  FISHING  NET  OFF  THE  BAJA  COAST NEAR  ENSENADA,  MEXICO.     SHE  IS  THE  ONLY  GREAT  WHITE (RELEASED  BY  THE  AQUARIUM)  KNOWN  TO  HAVE  DIED  SO  FAR.

In  50 years of attempts worldwide,  the Monterey Bay Aquarium remains the only institution to keep a great white shark on exhibit for more than 16 days

The exhibit of young great white sharks is part of the aquarium's effort to change public attitudes,  and raise awareness about the threats facing these top ocean predators.
