GREAT WHITE HAS DIED - 05/11/10 11:18 S.S.
THE YOUNG GREAT WHITE SHARK, THAT THE MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM RETURNED TO THE WILD LAST NOVEMBER, HAS DIED. THAT AFTER SHE WAS CAUGHT IN A FISHING NET OFF THE BAJA COAST NEAR ENSENADA, MEXICO. SHE IS THE ONLY GREAT WHITE (RELEASED BY THE AQUARIUM) KNOWN TO HAVE DIED SO FAR.
In 50 years of attempts worldwide, the Monterey Bay Aquarium remains the only institution to keep a great white shark on exhibit for more than 16 days
The exhibit of young great white sharks is part of the aquarium's effort to change public attitudes, and raise awareness about the threats facing these top ocean predators.
