Local Fire Fighters Battling Kincade Fire 10-25-19 05:16 DC 2

More than a dozen local firefighters are in Sonoma County helping 1300 others battle the Kincade fire. The 15 firefighters, from local CAL FIRE stations, are accompanied by 5 fire engines and a supervisor. This is a standard response configuration called a strike team, a term used nationwide.

When major wildland fires occur, CAL FIRE moves firefighters and equipment from around the state to battle the blazes. They also have reserve engines, owned by State OES, that can be staffed by city and county firefighters who can also respond to large fires.

With one-third of San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit firefighters and apparatus now in Sonoma County, local CAL FIRE officials say there remains enough coverage to protect the Central Coast. If needed, neighboring CAL FIRE units would move up and city and county firefighters and equipment are also available if needed.
