Santa Cruz County supervisors on Tuesday stopped a longstanding parking permit program covering coastal residential neighborhoods in Live Oak. The local action follows a state commission that advocates for equal access to the coast raising concerns about the fees that motorists would have to pay to park.
Santa Cruz County Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously voted to not move forward with the Live Oak Parking Program for the 2021 season. The move means that no permits will be required and parking will be open to the public for free along close to 10 miles of streets near the coastline between the city of Santa Cruz and Pleasure Point.
The city says it will continue looking for a way to charge for parking in the area impacted by the coastal commissions’ move to remove parking restrictions.
