A 20-year-old man was sentenced yesterday to life in prison for a 2009 gang-motivated murder. carlos espinoza will be eligible for parole in 85-years, for killing 15-year-old jose manuel perez on the 5-hundred block of terrace street in salinas. Another person was the target–perez was not involved with any gang. The intended target was not injured, but perez later died from his gunshot wounds. Espinoza was also convicted of attempted murder, street terrorism, and other charges. Attorneys for espinoza intend to appeal the convictions.
