Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

After years of praying for rain, Santa Cruz County has had more than its fill. Looking for something to bet on now that the Super Bowl is in the past? Try betting on whether 17 will stay open!

Take A Look At Some Local Flooding

UC-SANTA CRUZ HAS RECEIVED A $1.45-MILLION DOLLAR GRANT TO TRAIN IT’S FUTURE MATH AND SCIENCE TEACHERS.  THE GRANT WAS AWARDED BY THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION IN AN EFFORT TO ENHANCE THE EXISTING NOYCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH SUPPORTS UCSC STUDENTS WHO SEEK TO TEACH MATH AND SCIENCE IN LOCAL HIGH-NEED SCHOOL DISTRICTS.    THE GRANT, WHICH PRIMARILY GOES TOWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UCSC UNDERGRADUATES, ALSO HELPS FUND A NEW UCSC PROGRAM IN SILICON VALLEY THAT WILL FOCUS ON TRAINING HIGH TECH-PROFESSIONALS WHO WANT TO BECOME TEACHERS.   THE GRANT ALSO SUPPORTS PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN UCSC, 7-COMMUNITY COLLEGES, AND FOUR HIGH NEED SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN NEW TEACHERS IN AREAS OF DISTRICT SHORTAGES.
