The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a King tide warning for the Central Coast. In Santa Cruz, sea levels are expected to rise 6.58-feet high by 8:30 this morning and drop to negative 1.39-feet at 3:30 this afternoon. The next King tides occurrence is expected for tomorrow morning at 9:23 with a high tide of 6.59-feet, and on Thursday at 10:13 a.m. with a high tide of 6.46-feet. Boaters have been warned to monitor their vessels at anchor and to check mooring lines at the pier. King tides are known to create extreme high and low tides. They occur when the sun and moon’s gravitational pulls reinforce one another during times of the year when the moon is closest to the earth.
