The new KC’s Sports Bar in downtown Santa Cruz is now slated to open in October, after some unforeseen difficulties pushed back the opening date. The former Avenue Bar was purchased the co-owner of Surf City Billiards, Calvin Lee, in conjunction with the former Clouds bar manager Kanten Venemon. The previous establishment was cited by the city of Santa Cruz for substandard conditions, and police responded more than 100 times to calls there, causing the building to be red-tagged. The new bar will feature a full kitchen, and eventually an upstairs lounge. Lee hopes to open the bar around the same time the new Santa Cruz Warriors begin playing their first games.
