The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:
Only an entrenched irresponsible Congress urged by an irresponsible President would vote into law an irresponsible healthcare reform Bill of over 2000 pages, which nobody in Congress read before voting for it, and which will bankrupt and destroy our Country.
We the People must finally demand term limits.
Last week, local resident Bob Lessley, offered creative sensible ideas about changes in our government focusing on term limits and States’ rights.
Now, another concerned citizen who believes States’ rights and term limits are a must, came up with other creative ideas, calling it “The Congressional Reform Act of 2009”.
So, let’s examine the ideas in this Reform Act, and maybe a groundswell of citizens will get started on Congressional changes from both of these Americans’ ideas.
Senators could introduce the Bill in the U.S. Senate, and Representatives could introduce a similar Bill in the U.S. House.   These people could become American heroes.
These ideas are from a modest fellow who calls himself merely “A fellow American”.
And, here are his eight concise reforms:
#1.   Term limits:  12 years only for each person in office.  I would limit it to six years per person for the Senate, and six years per person for the House, because serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.   The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term, then go home and back to work.
#2.  No tenure – no pension.
Congress will collect a salary while in office, and none when out of office.
#3.  Congress past, present, and future participate in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system where Congress participates equally with the American people.
#4.  Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as we all do.
#5.  Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
#6.  Congress loses their current healthcare system (poor babies), and participates in the same healthcare system as they created for We the People.
#7.   Congress must equally abide in and by all laws they impose on the on the rest of us.
Remember:   Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term, then go home and back to work.
          And, finally –
#8.   All contracts with past and present Congresspersons are void effective 1-01-2010 because the American people did not make contracts with Congressmen.  Congressmen made all these contracts and deals among themselves.
P.S. – Let’s limit lawyers to no more than 15-20% of the Congressional membership.
To conclude, I say – kudos to this modest American who proclaims “It is my sole intent not to make anyone mad with this email, but instead to make people THINK!  We need to get our freedoms back before it is too late.”
And, I say, “Let’s go for it.  Let’s take portions of Bob Lessley’s proposals and combine them with this one, and together we can take back our Country.  It can be done.

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

This is called "If Israel is not evil, the world is in big trouble."

Kudos to Tammy Benjamin for sharing this current information, and I will add my thoughts, also. As an American Jewess, I am pained by the unfair twisting of the truth about Israel because of media omission.

Dear Friends,

As usual, Dennis Prager is the beacon of moral clarity in a sea of moral confusion. The last few sentences of his column of Tuesday, June 8, 2010, are the best and the most frightening, but you must wait for about three minutes to hear them.

With the exception of the United States, nearly all the world’s nation, newspapers, radio, and TV news stations, the United Nations and the world’s Leftists academics and organizations have condemned Israel over the Gaza flotilla incident. The characterizations of the Jewish State range from a society so evil that it should not be allowed to exist.

Well, let’s hope the world is right.

Israel is almost totally isolated. A visitor from another planet would have every reason to report back home that the greatest problem on planet Earth was the planet’s Jewish State. Though Israel is the size of the State of New Jersey, and smaller than El Salvador, and though its population is smaller than that of Sweden and Bolivia, it is the most censured country in United Nations’ history. I must add, Israel can be traversed in a car from south to north in eight hours, and east to west in three hours. And, that is how small Israel is.

Let’s hope the world is right.

Though Israel is a thriving liberal democracy for all its citizens, including the one out of five that is Arab (83% of whom are Muslim) with an independent judiciary and press, though it signed an agreement establishing an independent Palestinian State, at the same time Israel became a State, though it returned to Egypt every inch of the Sinai Peninsula, a land mass larger than Israel itself, with major oil reserves – the world deems Israel a villain.

Let’s hope the world is right.

Though Hamas runs a theocratic police state in Gaza based on torture and terror with no freedom of speech, no freedom of any religious expression outside of radical Islam, seeks to annihilate the Jewish State and its State-controlled media depict Israelis and Jews as worthy of death, the world sees Israel, not Hamas, as the villain. And,

let’s hope the world is right.

I say – the world media omits the vital information. Israel’s only concern when regularly entering the ships, which go to Gaza with supplies, is to examine the ships so that bombs and explosives are not are not also sent to Gaza, which daily sends them to explode in Israel. The world media refuses to print that information.

It was routine for Israel’s soldiers to enter the ships never expecting to be attacked and ambushed with metal pipes. They shot the nine attackers only in self-defense. But, the world media will not report that.

To conclude, the reason mankind has to hope that the world, its leaders, the newspapers, the so-called human rights organizations, and the United Nations are right about Israel is quite simple, if Israel is the decent party in its war with the Palestinian authority and Hamas and nearly all the world’s countries, nearly all the world’s media and the United Nations are morally wrong – what hope is there for humanity?

If the world’s moral compass is that broken, are we not sailing into a dark age?

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

This got by me while on vacation recently, but it is a true logical gem. Kudos to Rae Williams for sharing this. It bears repeating.

Maybe Obama will put to sleep his agenda to change our free Country into socialism. But, it is unlikely.

As the late Adrian Rogers said, "You can’t multiple wealth by dividing it."

An economics professor at a local college, made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but recently he failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked, and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, and that is a great equalizer.

The professor then said "OK, why don’t we have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan." All grades will be averaged and everyone would receive the same the same grade, so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset, and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less, and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride, too, so they studied little. The second test average was a D (like in dumb). No one was happy.

When the third test rolled around, the average was an F (like in fail).

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame, and name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away no one will try or want to succeed.

It could not be any simpler than that.

Remember, there is a test coming up within the next five months – the midterm election in 2010.

Don’t forget to vote.

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

This is in honor of Memorial Day.

At a time when our President and other politicians tend to apologize for our Country's prior actions, here is a refresher on how some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our Country.

They are good.

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 1960s when DeGaule decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaule said he wanted all U.S. military out of France ASAP.

Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?"

DeGaule didn’t respond.

You could have heard a pin drop.

When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of "empire building" by George W.Bush.

He answered by saying, "Over the years, the U.S. has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that didn’t return."

You could have heard a pin drop.

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian, and French Navies at a cocktail reception. He found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks, but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?"

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, "Maybe it is because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies, and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German."

You could have heard a pin drop.

And finally this story fits right in with the above –

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France!"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this Country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to."

You could have heard a pin drop.

Finally,

This has been floating around for a while, but it is timely and really worth repeating.

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote was translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Plager Zeitung of April 28, 2010.

"The danger to America is not Barak Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President."

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The republic can survive a Barak Obama, who is after all merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

Let’s take a rest from daily stressful occurrences and bad world news, and just reminisce about the happier, simple past.

After a while, one realizes that everything in life is timing.  Case in point – my two lifelong teen girlfriends and I planned to go to a party one Saturday night in 1936.  I decided not to go, and told them to go without me.   I was worrying then a lot about my dad’s failing health.   But, they coaxed me to go, and I did.

That party shaped my life – I met the young man – fleetingly – who was to become my husband, the father of my three children, and the love of my life for 58 years plus four years of courting.   Sure – we bickered now and then.

If I had stayed home that Saturday night – we never would have met, and what a loss that would have been for us – and Louis, Regina, and MZ never would have happened.

Clearly, important life moments happen in unplanned times.

Also, during WW2, my husband Barry served in the Navy.  Right after our Country conquered Germany, his group was ordered to San Francisco for several days in 1945 while en route to Japan, and as luck would have it VJ Day happened then, so this Navy contingent was not sent to Japan after all.   See the unplanned good timing.   My husband and his group remained in San Francisco for one year until they were released from the Navy, during which time he discovered how beautiful California was, and decided we should try to live here.

That was a good thought – we didn’t want to remain in New York, and the timing made California an option.

If you have a moment to think, you will discover that some inconsequential incidences may have shaped your whole life, also.  Think about it.

Another prophetic incident – after our little family of four (MZ had not yet entered this world), on Labor Day 1947, we arrived in Santa Cruz from New York.  That happened to be the day that KSCO came on the air for the first time.   Little did we know then how important it would become in our lives.

When we arrived in Santa Cruz in September 1947, Barry planned to meet a certain retiring optometrist who wrote to us several times in Brooklyn about how wonderful life was in Santa Cruz, then population 12,500.   He said he went fishing several times a week, and convinced us to come and look at his practice which he wanted to sell.

The morning after we arrived, Barry visited with the retiring optometrist for several hours, and became convinced that we should stay here in Santa Cruz, and purchase his practice.

In retrospect, it was a wonderful move, and a great place to raise our family.   MZ joined us in 1951, and we were all thrilled with his arrival.

At that time, the early ‘50s, we had intercoms, and I woke the children every morning with KGO, that big San Francisco station that initiated the new format of interactive newstalk in the late ‘50s.

The rest is history.   In his teens, MZ would go to San Francisco often on a bus for an afternoon just to watch the celebrities enter and leave the KGO building.   As a teenager, also, he hosted a weekly high school program on KSCO until he was fired by the boss, Mr. Berlin, for making a fart noise with his mouth on the air.   Decades later, when we purchased KSCO, Mr. Berlin, the original engineer owner, and MZ became very good friends.

Wouldn’t this be a good script for a movie?

This waxing sentimental must end for the time being.  Thanks for listening, and yes you must agree that unplanned timing often changes the direction of our lives in an unusual or exciting way.

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

This is about just one hospital, and you would see that it is unbelievable.   Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, is a famous institution for a variety of reasons.   JFK died there, Lee Harvey Oswald died there shortly thereafter, and Jack Ruby, who killed Oswald, died there a few years later.   Parkland has the second busiest maternity wards in the Country, with almost 16,000 new babies arriving each year.  That is almost 44 per day every day.

A recent patient survey indicated that 70% of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants.  That is 11,200 babies born every year just in Dallas.

Records show the hospital spent over $70 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004, but they managed to end up with almost $8 million in surplus.   Medicaid kicked in over $34 million.  Dallas County taxpayers kicked in more than $31 million, and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million.

The average patient in Parkland maternity wards is 25 years old, married, and giving birth to a second child.  She is also an illegal immigrant.  By law, pregnant women cannot be denied medical care based on their immigration status or ability to pay.

OK – fine – that does not mean they should receive better care than everyday middle class American citizens.  But, at Parkland Hospital they do.   Parkland Hospital has nine prenatal clinics – NINE!

These illegal women receive free prenatal care including medication, nutrition, birthing classes, and child care classes.  They also get freebies such as car seats, bottles, diapers, and formulas.

Most of these things are available to American citizens as well, but only for low income applicants, and even then the red tape involved is almost insurmountable.

Because these women are illegal immigrants, they do not have to provide any sort of identification – no proof of income.  An American citizen would have to provide a Social Security number, which would reveal their annual income – an illegal immigrant need only claim to be poor, and the hospital must take them at their word.

Presently, there are about 140 U.S. patients who receive roughly $4 million for medical care.   As it turned out, they did not qualify for free treatment because they resided outside of Dallas County.  So, the hospital is going to sue them.  Illegals get it all free, but U.S. citizens who live outside the Dallas County get sued.  How stupid is this?

How much longer will Dallas and Parkland Hospital pander to illegals, and punish legal residents?  When will Congress step in and send illegals back to Mexico?  This kind of preferential treatment to illegals at the expense of Americans is sheer insanity!   It is financial stupidity.   Let’s send them back and close the borders.

If you question these figures and costs, you may call Parkland Hospital for verification.

And, kudos to you Marilyn of Capitola.

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:
Because their existence in our Country remains incongruous, let’s examine sanctuary cities in the U.S. How long have they been allowed to flourish, and more importantly – why? Surely there were none when the 13 states were born in 1776.
For those of you who don’t know, sanctuary cities are places that welcome and protect known illegals in our Country.
Also, for your information, there are 31 sanctuary cities in our Country. Los Angeles was the first, that was in 1979. San Francisco is one of the very active ones. It protects various illegal incidents that would otherwise not be tolerated by any other cities in California. New York City is another. These 31 American cities have ordinances banning city employees and police from asking about immigration status. Some States forbid sanctuary cities because they know it undermines laws of the State.
Why should there be places in the U.S. which encourage and condone possible illegal behavior, and are protected and coddled for breaking our laws?
Those leaders of sanctuary cities could agree that because we are a free nation people should have the right to change the laws if they can get away with it. That sounds crazy to me, but that is exactly what sanctuary cities do.
Very interesting, though. Right now, and what the Governor of Arizona did a while ago to protect her State which is overrun with illegals and their problems, all sanctuary cities are crying out and accusing Arizona of committing the shameful act of possibly inquiring that people who look Mexican or Spanish should show proof of citizenship. The federal government refuses to keep the border closed so those numerous problems with illegals must be dealt with by the Arizona Governor.
Our bleeding-heart liberals think it is unforgivable to embarrass any Spanish-looking person if he or she is here illegally. Why are we concerned about their tender feelings if they cross the border and broke our laws? If they break into your home, would you still be polite and gentle with their feelings?
If I try to enter Mexico illegally, I would either be shot or incarcerated, or maybe even both.
U.S. federal and state leaders develop should develop some backbone and close and protect our borders now – right now – and eliminate sanctuary cities or our federal and State laws will soon become meaningless. The world must be laughing at us for tolerating sanctuary cities.

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

What’s occurring in Arizona as we speak is a grotesque situation where it appears that right is wrong and wrong is right. That is to say, the illegals are screaming like they belong here, like they were welcomed here, because they were. Because of our leaders’ delinquencies, illegals in our Country for the past 20-25 years were given the wrong message. They figured if the borders from Mexico were open, they were welcome to come here. Many came for a better life, and who can blame them? Now, we want them to go home.

The blame for this probable five-decade disaster, which is now coming to haunt us, can be laid to our past four to five Presidents, namely: President Bush Sr., President Reagan, President Clinton, President Bush Jr., and now currently for the last 1-1/2 years President Obama.

They all left the borders open knowingly. They broke our laws. Why? Possibly for cheap labor, which could have been obtained from the able-bodied Americans allowed to remain on Welfare indefinitely, which is sad, because those who do no work, and are able to, have no self-respect and dignity. The irony is now illegals are getting the few jobs that are available, and the American citizens are not.

Our President has been telling us lies about the amount of illegals living and working here – he says "maybe 11 million", when it is possibly more like 30 million. We will never really know. And, those immigrants who waited, and became citizens legally, are also very angry that illegals are being given extra perks for breaking our laws. Example: Some free college educations. And, the new legal citizens did the right thing, and they’re not rewarded.

Obama made sure everyone is included in the new universal healthcare debacle, which hopefully will be repealed. That amount of illegals has been soft-pedaled, and not mentioned specifically – because the government will probably be paying the bill for them. They cannot be excluded, and they are accustomed to excellent healthcare here in all U.S. hospital Emergency Rooms.

We the People must demand loud and clear that our borders must be kept closed now! Our jails are already overcrowded with unsavory characters, many from Mexican gangs here illegally, and it is all at our expense, and Mexico may be laughing at us and our stupidity.

The future for America looks bleak. Either we could lose our beloved U.S. by overcrowding illegals, which Obama needs to win another four-year term – or by Obama socialism. Please – let’s wake up before it is too late. Let’s demand our laws be enforced.
