The following is an encore presentation of an earlier KSCO commentary, which also appears in Kay’s new book.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

As a longtime resident of this planet, and a lucky native born of this incredible Country, I need to speak out about why our United States, once the hope and promise of the world, is rapidly becoming weaker and unable to live up to its past expectations.   It is our own goodness, generosity, and trusting nature that is destroying us.

The topic is:  Assimilation vs. diversity.

Let’s roll back the clock to around 1913 when my own parents and European extended family were part of the greatest influx of immigrants to the United States.

In the late 1920s as a child, I saw how proud and grateful my family was to be here in America where they saw the hope and opportunity nonexistent in their own native Country.  The one abiding desire of all immigrants at that time was to quickly learn to speak, read, and write in English – in short, to become truly American.

It is called assimilation.   That desire to be American in no way diminished the love that newcomers had for their own culture, history, and native language.  They knew it was their responsibility to keep their own heritage alive, and they never expected their newly adopted Country to do that for them.

Let’s fast forward now to the early 1960s or thereabouts when immigration surged again, from Mexico, Korea, Japan, China, Viet Nam, and many other countries.  It was then that the notion of diversity became very popular, and it was celebrated ad nauseum by the politically correct Left.

Always motivated by feelings, never reality, the Left felt that it was wonderful to have this mixture of cultures in the United States, and in many ways it is true, it was; however, the Left, in its enthusiasm, felt that as a Country We the People were responsible for helping these newcomers keep their respective languages and cultures alive.

Big big mistake.  So what happened?   At that time, most new citizens came from Mexico and spoke only Spanish.   Our public education system, led by Leftist educators, created the program of “English as a Second Language” whereby Mexican children received most of their education in Spanish so their parents and they did not have to learn English, so they remained primarily Mexicans, but lived in the United States.    That’s called diversity?   I call it disaster.

Now, let’s fast forward to now, 2002.   As a result of 40 years of diversity, and the rejection of assimilation, many immigrants do not understand English, but they do have the right to vote, so our voting ballots are now in many languages.   This is stupid and wrong.  And, it is weakening and destroying the identity of our Country.  It is time to demand that to vote one must read, write, and understand English, and all ballots must be in English only because English is our national language.

What we have now is mass chaos and ghettoes of different cultures.  I say, tell political correctness and diversity to take a hike, because diversity divides and assimilation brings unity.  What we have now is a nation of babble.  Please, let’s take back our Country now.

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:
This is called “Bernie Madoff and Social Security”.   It was sent to me by Carol Terry, and kudos to you, Carol.  It is so simple, a caveman could understand it.
Why did Bernie Madoff go to prison?   To make it simple, he talked people into investing with him.  The trouble was, he did not invest their money.  As time rolled on, he simply took the money from the new investors to pay off the old investors.  Finally, there were too many old investors and not enough money from new investors coming in to keep the payments going.   The next thing you know, Madoff is one of the most hated men in America, and he is off to jail.  Some of you know this, but not enough of you.
Madoff did to his investors what the government has been doing to us for over 70 years with Social Security.    There is no meaningful difference between the two schemes except that one was operated by the private individual who is now in jail, and the other is operated by politicians who enjoy perks, privileges, and status in spite of their actions.   Do you need a side-by-side comparison here?   Well, here is a nifty little chart:
BERNIE MADOFF  –  SOCIAL SECURITY
Bernie Madoff takes money from investors with the promise that the money will be invested and made available to them later.
Social Security takes money from wage earners with the promise that the money will be invested in a Trust Fund and made available later.
Instead of investing the money, Madoff spends it on new homes in the Hamptons, and yachts.
Instead of depositing money in a Trust Fund, the politicians use it for general spending and vote buying.
When the time comes to pay the investors back, Madoff simply uses some of the new funds from newer investors to payback the older investors.
When benefits for older investors become due, the politicians pay them with money taken from younger and newer wage earners to pay the geezers.
When Madoff scheme is discovered, all Hell breaks loose.   New investors will not give him anymore money.
When Social Security runs out of money, they simply force the taxpayers to send them some more.
Bernie Madoff is in jail.
Politicians remain in Washington.
The taxpayer – “That is someone who works for the federal government, but does not have to take the Civil Service examination” – that was from Ronald Reagan).
Here is another quote, “If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in five years there would be a shortage of sand.” – that was from Milton Friedman.
Isn’t this an excellent analogy?

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

I wish I had written the following, but I did not, and much of it is really worth sharing.   It was written by an editor of a newspaper in Michigan.  His name is Ken Huber.  It is called “What has America become?  Has America become the land of the special interests, and home of the double standard?”

Originally printed in the Iosco County News Herald on June 9, 2010

Editor,

Has America become the land of the double standard?

Lets see: if we lie to the Congress, it's a felony and if the Congress lies to us its just politics; if we dislike a black person, we're racist and if a black person dislikes whites, its their 1st Amendment right; the government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims; in public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK, but you better not use the word God in the process; you can kill an unborn child, but it is wrong to execute a mass murderer; we don't burn books in America, we now rewrite them; we got rid of communist and socialist threats by renaming them progressive; we are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have no problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obama's policies you're a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or George Bush in effigy it was your 1st Amendment right.

You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas; we have eliminated all criminals in America, they are now called sick people; we can use a human fetus for medical research, but it is wrong to use an animal.

We take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don't want to work; we all support the Constitution, but only when it supports our political ideology; we still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct; parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games; the land of opportunity is now the land of hand outs; the similarity between Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill is that neither president did anything to help.

And how do we handle a major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who's at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes; tells us the problem is solved so they can get back to their reelection campaign.

What has happened to the land of the free and home of the brave?

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

          Let’s call this Random Thoughts:

#1.  We citizens of the U.S. pride ourselves on probably being the one authentic democracy of the world.  That being the case, how come we now and then are being confronted with the reality that our Congress decides that they are all somewhat better than We the People so they create a universal healthcare plan for the rest of us, but they provide themselves with more expensive different insurance that is very superior.  How dare these people get away with that inequality in our so-called democracy.   I say if the government will provide the healthcare that We the People pay for, it should be the same for everyone including the Congress, and the President, and his family.

Second random thought –

#2.  Sadly, we have been engaged in a very long war in Afghanistan, about nine years, and sadly at least 38,000 American soldiers have been wounded or died.  Settling differences between countries with war is certainly not the answer.  Can’t we find a better, less barbaric way to get along?

The United Nations is certainly not the answer even though it was supposed to be because its agenda is not to settle nations’ differences.  It aspires to supersede countries and rule the world.  We must remove ourselves from the United Nations.

Third random thought –

#3.  Those Americans who fight to defend our Country, I believe should get a bigger higher wage than the Congress does, but that certainly is not the case.    Once brave, dismissed and wounded soldiers leave the military, the government drops the ball, and the American public is expected to help the soldiers with rehabilitation.   The government should be responsible for that, but they do not respond as they should.   Unfortunately, many veterans not receiving government proper financial and emotional support cannot face their situations, and now sadly many of them commit suicide when they return home, and this is shameful.

And, finally, another random thought, and another inequity –

#4.   We seniors who have contributed our share to the Social Security Fund for the past two years have been denied our yearly Cost of Living increase while those in Congress with hefty salaries who denied us those funds continue to vote themselves 15-20% yearly increases, and that is not democratic, and I say it stinks.

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

Dear Listeners of KSCO radio,

Because what I am about to tell you will definitely affect our radio station, I want to share part of this letter of protest which I and others are sending to Senator Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader of the U.S. Senate. It is about a despicable stealth effort by President Obama and other Liberals to destroy conservative talk radio. And, here are the salient facts in the letter:

Dear Senator McConnell,

Thank you for opposing re-institution of the Fairness Doctrine, which would have unfairly taken conservative talk radio off the air.

Today, however, I want to call your attention to a stealth effort by the Federal Communications Commission, also known as the FCC, designed to accomplish the same thing as the old Fairness Doctrine.

An effort is underway to impose a policy called Localism on local radio station owners, the goal to intimidate them into dropping talk show hosts like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, G. Gordon Liddy, Mark Levin, etc., and after that they may try to silence local talk hosts like me.

It is clear from the actions of the FCC that their intent is to threaten radio station owners with the loss of their license if they do not follow the wishes of their new community adversary boards.

These boards will, of course, be filled with folks who are unfriendly to conservative talk radio.

Clearly, such actions border on blackmail, and should have no place in our American society.

Although sneaky, these actions by the FCC are designed to silence all opposition to the Obama administration by circumventing the Congress through the initiation of administrative action, and these actions are exactly what Obama wants.

One wonders why Obama allows himself to be so intensely worried about conservatism that he must legally destroy it. Doesn’t that show his socialism cannot compete even in our free society?

President Obama needed only three votes from the five member FCC to shut down conservative talk radio, and he just got it. And, that is why I think you should know what is going on.

Legally I believe we will finally prevail because with 41 votes in the Senate, the Republican party can block FCC funding and force the President and his new FCC Chairman to back off their plan to silence all opposition to their Socialist schemes.

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

Have you noticed that a number of very visible conservative Americans are loudly determined to gather us together to force our weakened President to eliminate Obamacare – which his family and all of Congress would never participate in because it is inferior for them – but “good” for us?

We the People together can help make the Obama health fiasco go away.

Listen to the following little gem, which tells the story so well and so concisely.  It is called “Here’s the reality.”  I think it has been floating around, but it is really worth repeating.

Let me get this straight…

We are going to be gifted with a healthcare plan that we are forced to purchase and fined if we do not, which covers at least ten million more people – I say it is more like 30 million people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents.  It was written by a committee whose chairman says he does not understand it.  It was passed by a Congress that did not read it, but exempted themselves from it, and it was signed by a President who smokes, with funding administered by a Treasury Chief who did not pay his taxes, for which we will be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, and by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a Surgeon General who is obese, and financed by a Country that is broke.   What the heck could possibly go wrong?!

The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

I remember seeing Ronald Reagan in person one time in the early or mid 1960s when I was an adult re-entry student at Cabrillo College, and had the pleasure of hearing him promote, I believe Nixon for President of the United States.

That was his first taste of politics, after which he then became Governor of California, then finally one of our best-liked Presidents of the United States.

Kudos to Jim and Mary Lou Weeks for sharing the following Reagan gems:

Socialism only works in two places: Heaven where they do not need it, and Hell where they already have it.

Here is my strategy on the cold war: We win, they lose.

The most terrifying words in the English language are: I am from the government, and I am here to help.

The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant. It is just that they know so much that is not so.

Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.

I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.

A taxpayer – that is someone who works for the federal government, but does not have to take the Civil Service exam.

Government is like a baby – an alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end, and no sense of responsibility at the other.

The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.

It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.

Government’s view of the economy can be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it; if it keeps moving, regulate it; and if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed, there are many rewards. If you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.

No arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and free women.

If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.

And finally –Fight organized crime. Re-elect no one.So that tells me that term limits are a must, and I totally agree.

The following is a KSCO commentary.  Here is Kay Zwerling:

So, the election is over, and we conservatives can begin to sleep a lot easier because we will for the next two years be able to speak out loud and clear that our government must take seriously our debt.   For the first time in its existence, we learn now the debt has become $14.5 Trillion.

We have been told that while our credit rating still remains at AAA – it is precarious, and if we lose it – no country will lend us any money.

          What is the solution?

Clearly, our government must start to tighten its belt and become lean.   That was one of the messages we heard this week.   I sure hope President Obama heard it.

For starters, maybe our President will willingly become a role model for us and get rid of the 40 or so czars in our government who supposedly have guided his leadership thus far.  If he consulted them, they have not done a good job – and if they are paid even $150,000 a year, that could reduce our debt by almost $6 million per year, and almost $12 million for the two years of Obama’s final term.   It would be savings $12 million almost for two years.

It has been reported that our First Lady has 20 helpers unlike previous First Ladies who only had one.  Perhaps a few of them had two.    So, many of her friends are well taken care of.

And, each helper must be paid at least the same as the czars.  There is another possible almost $12 million to reduce our debt.

So, between the President and the First Lady, they could personally reduce the Country’s deficit by $24 million or thereabouts.   That would be a wonderful way of showing the rest of the government employees how on a smaller level they could each try to reduce the deficit.

Another example – on a weekly basis many thousands are wasted on the enormous single plane flying Nancy Pelosi nonstop back and forth to her California home.  She refused a cheaper, smaller plane because it was not nonstop.   This extravagance has gone on to several years.

All this may sound like not much, but if all government employees and agencies would cut out obvious extravagances the debt could be reduced significantly.
