A solo kayaker, intending to paddle from Sausalito to Honolulu, was rescued 70 miles west of Santa Cruz yesterday (Sunday). The 44 year-old Larkspur man, who spent 3 years preparing for this trip, said although it was disappointing, he made the right call to abort the trip when the winds picked up. He was rescued via Coast Guard helicopter, and plans to coordinate the retrieval of his kayak once the winds die back down.
