The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

Let’s put politics on the back burner and just talk about some
interesting trivia. For your information, those of you who just thought
you knew everything, here’s a refresher course:
The liquid inside young coconuts can be used as a substitute for blood
plasma.
No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven times.
Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.
Oak trees do not produce acorns until they’re 50 years of age or older.
The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley’s gum.
The king of hearts is the only king without a mustache.
American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one olive from
each salad served in First Class.
Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise. Since Venus is
normally associated with woman, what does that tell you?
Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient in waking you up in the morning.
Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin.
The first owner of the Marlboro company died of lung cancer. So did the
first Marlboro man.
Walt Disney was afraid of mice.
Pearls melt in vinegar.
The three most valuable brand names on earth are Marlboro, Coca Cola,
and Budweiser, in that order.
It’s possible to lead a cow upstairs, but not downstairs.
A duck’s quack doesn’t echo and noone knows why.
Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least six feet
away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.
Richard Millhouse Nixon was the first U.S. President whose name contains
all the letters from the word criminal. The second President, William
Jefferson Clinton. Please don’t tell me you’re surprised.
And the best for last, turtles can breathe through their butts. I know
some people like that. Don’t you?
Now you know everything there is to know of importance. Cheers.

And I’m going to wind this up with a powerful truism: In World War II,
there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who
dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one
minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and
peace. This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped. There is now a
group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would
like to participate, each evening at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, 8:00 p.m.
Central, 7:00 p.m. Mountain, 6:00 p.m. Pacific, and 4:00 p.m. Hawaiian,
stop whatever you’re doing and spend one minute praying for the safety
of the United States, our troops, our citizens, peace in the world, and
for a Godly nation. If you know anyone who would like to participate,
please pass this along. Someone said, if people really understood the
full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be
speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Thank
you, and God bless America. And thank you Judy DeVillbiss.

Wouldn’t it be great to turn on the TV and hear any U.S. President, Democrat or Republican, give the following speech: "My fellow Americans, as you all know, the defeat of the Iraq regime has been completed. Congress does not want to spend anymore money on this war, so our mission in Iraq is over. This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of our military from Iraq. Before me, I have two lists: One list contains the names of countries which stood by us during that conflict. The list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland. The other list contains everyone not on the first list, and that’s most of the world’s nations. Let me start by saying that effective immediately foreign aid to all nations on list two ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved the first year alone will pretty much pay for the cost of the Iraqi war. The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell holes and watch those government leaders grow spot on corruption. Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France. In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations, ’You torment us, and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.’ Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China. I’m ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many U.N. diplomatic vehicles located in Manhatten with more than two unpaid parking tickets to see that those vehicles will be stripped, shredded, and crushed. I don’t care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow, or watch your precious Benz’es, Beamers & limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. A special note to our neighbor Canada, who is on list two. Since we’re likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change. Mexico is also on list. The recent President Fox and his entire corrupt government really makes it necessary for an attitude change. I will have a couple extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I’m going to put them -- yep, border security. Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty starting now. We’re tired of the one-way highway. At once, we’ll be drilling for oil in Alaska, which will take care of this country’s oil needs for decades to come. If you’re opposed to this decision, pick a country from list two and move there. It’s time for America to focus its own welfare and its own citizens. Are we becoming isolationists? You bet. Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It’s time to eliminate hunger in America. It’s time to eliminate homelessness in America. To the nations on list one, a final thought, "Thanks guys, we owe you and we won’t forget." To the nations on list two, a final note, ’You might want to learn to speak Arabic.’ To the world, I say ’God bless America, thank you and good-night.’" For KSCO and KOMY, this is Kay Zwerling. This is in response to the hornet’s nest I stirred up with the
most recent "Initiate the Draft" commentary. You Gary Ransone and
others with the same parental knee-jerk reaction, went ballistic at the
notion of your child having any military involvement whatsoever. You’re
right that I did not want MZ to have to fight in Viet Nam, but had he
been called to serve, he would have gone. The alternative of abandoning
his Country was unthinkable.
My oldest son Lou served in the U.S. Army for three years, part
of it in occupied Germany. My husband Bernard served three years in the
Navy in World War 2, and was on his way to help finish off Japan in
1945. Then, VJ Day happened.
But this is a different world now. Islamic terrorism is real
and barbaric, and will not stop, and has permeated every part of the
globe, so we must have a strong military which will inhibit and
discourage the enemy much more than if we remain weak and vulnerable.
The reaction of those of you who are appalled at the suggestion
that we must be militarily strong, always say there are other ways to
deal with our enemies other than war, but like the far left now in power
they have yet to propose a peaceful solution, or any solution, and
meanwhile the enemy becomes stronger.
It’s tragic and idiotic that the four-month-old liberal-led
Congress is now busy micro-managing the Iraqi war with their foolish
destructive non-binding resolutions which only serve to tell the enemy
that we are buckling and about to give up.
So, to Pelosi and Murtha and the others involved in those
political shenanigans, I say, you have probably blown it for 2008,
proving you’re incapable of true and honest leadership.
To all caring Americans, I say, get real. We are in the midst
of fighting for our very existence.
If we do not confront the enemy as a nation with a formidable
military, we will lose our freedom and everything that is dear to us.
Bullies don’t fool with those who are strong and prepared.
Two years of military training and its attending discipline will
not hurt your sons and daughters, or my grandchildren and great
grandchildren. It will make them stronger and better involved
citizens. Only by being together and militarily prepared will we ever
hope to overcome this evil very organized enemy.

Download from our website: Download this Podcast here The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling: My recent two commentaries dealt with the suggestion that clearly Islamic terrorism must be dealt with for many years to come. Therefore, the Draft should now be resurrected. That news generated strong, sometimes hysterical reaction by some listeners. So, let’s pursue this issue further. Foolish me. I took a risk, and thought I was talking to an audience of Americans who were very aware of the present danger to our freedom and way of life, and could see that it is OK for each of us to care enough to participate in the preservation of our own national safety. It is wrong to expect a voluntary military to do it all indefinitely for the rest of us. If we were asked to serve in some capacity, I thought most would agree. Guess what - I was initially wrong, and then after a while, I was right. One Proverb keeps haunting me as a reaction to the negative emotion re universal military preparedness. "As you sow, so shall you reap." The permissive generations of the past 40 years chose to not discipline their children, to never say no to them, to be overly protective of their emotional well-being, and those parents created a grave disservice to their children, many of whom are totally self-absorbed and selfish. Even more important, they, the children, were cheated out of the sense of joint responsibility and loyalty. Many listeners who at first were angry at the mention of the Draft thought about it and decided that after all, it would help our nation and our own self worth to participate in our national military preparedness. And, our able-bodied young people would then have a personal reason to love and protect their national home. Even the man who called a local program and threatened to move to Poland with his son in the event of a Draft, I honestly believe would finally agree to stay and participate in our own defense. By way of emails and voice mails to me and other local programs, this topic has brought up many other creative ways of serving our country. Very appealingly especially to Conscientious Objectors, working in forestry, road building, housing for the poor, dealing with pollution, etc., were mentioned by the same listeners who at first were angry about the Draft. Also mentioned was the fairness of a lottery along with the Draft. All of these suggestions are wonderful. And best of all, instead of remaining mildly interested critical spectators of whatever our elected officials decide to do about terrorism, we all could be personally invested, and we all would be stronger. The final thought, it is good to be willing to look at and confront unpopular situations which in the final analysis brings us together and surely would help to conquer the evil in our midst because in unity there is strength. I have a good warm feeling because this has been a moment in time when the best came out of those who confronted their own inner fears and selves and responsibility to their fellow Americans prevailed. If we remain on this track instead of being mired in political divisiveness, without a doubt we will eventually conquer the enemy and be safe and home free. For KSCO and KOMY, this is Kay Zwerling. The following is a KSCO commentary. Here is Kay Zwerling:

It’s the big elephant in the room this time. It keeps needling us constantly since 9/11 and especially after our war in Afghanistan. We realized then that the Islamic terrorists had already infiltrated the entire world, many living among us here in the U.S.
It’s four years since we entered Iraq, and we can see now that our military effort was too little too late.
What a mess we have created. We were too weak. We were never strong enough, and the Iraqis finally didn’t care enough to want to be a democracy. We didn’t have the wherewithal to stop their infighting.
The one thing that would have made all the difference in Iraq, and may have prevented the Civil War there, is so noticeable by its absence, and it’s called the Draft. D-R-A-F-T.
The courageous young Americans who signed up to fight in Iraq did not expect to be called upon to go back again and again and again. That was not the expected deal. That was not fair. But our leaders opted to do that rather than to establish what was fair, and that was the Draft. And, if it’s so, why after 60 years do we still have occupation troops in peaceful Germany and peaceful Japan?
Where is the government outrage when daily, military recruiters are physically thrown out of publicly financed universities around our country?
All Americans benefit from living in our glorious nation, so all able-bodied Americans should be serving in the military. That terrible word that no elected official from the President down has the cajonies to mention has been missing for the past four years. What are we waiting for?
Our enemies are laughing at our self-imposed impotence.
Poisoned and crippled by political correctness like all of the weak and useless Europe, our leaders are afraid that they will be committing political suicide by promoting the Draft. I think the opposite would be true. They would finally be considered honest, courageous, and serious instead of self-serving.
Like it or not, 9/11 was the dawn of a different world. Realistically, we may be fighting world terrorism for 20 years or even more. To defend ourselves and our allies, we must all be totally prepared and strong, like my generation was in conquering evil in World War II. We were all involved. We all cared. We all had a vested interest. We all had meat rationing and other restrictions. Women took over the factories when our men were fighting the enemy. Because we were together, we won.
Every able-bodied man and woman should serve willingly in the military for two years at age 18, then be in the Reserves until age 50. That is the law in Israel which always has a strong prepared Army.
If our entire society was invested in our safety and security, many of the polarized situations politically would be neutralized.
Again, for the past four years, most Americans have been only spectators and critics of the war, but personally involved? Unthinkable. To them I say “Wake up. If you want freedom, you must be willing to fight for it.”
Every American must be involved. Every American must care. Our country cannot fight cheap and win.
The world observes and sneers at our stupidity and at our military weakness.
There are those cowards who will scurry away to Canada or elsewhere, but they will be in the minority. To reiterate, if we initiate the Draft, never again will it be too little and too late.
