In District 4, incumbent Jane Parker has garnered nearly 57% of the vote, followed by Former Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue with 37%. Monterey County voters also decided on several local measures. Measure A has passed, which will enable the San Antonio Union School District to issue $2.1 million in general obligation bonds. The measure needed 55% of the vote, and with all precincts in, it received 62%.
Measure B, or the Salinas Charter Amendment, has received 54 % of the vote. The measure only needs a simple majority to pass. If approved in the final tally, it will lift a requirement on the city to use a competitive bidding process for public construction projects costing more than $50,000. It would also remove the requirement for a 2/3 majority vote at citywide elections for the establishment of certain utilities.
Measure C, which also only needs a simple majority to pass, has garnered 54%. If approved, the measure would allow the legal and regulated sale and use of certain types of fireworks between June 28th and July 5th each year. (S.G.)
