(13:45) SANTA CRUZ – The five students involved in the shut down of Highway 1 during a tuition hike protest in March were sentenced today. Ethan Pezzow, Alexander Pearce, Sophia Dimatteo, Jeanine Caceres, and Lori Nixon, were sentenced to 30 days in jail for two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and public nuisance. Sasha Peterson, another student participant, has yet to be sentenced due to her attorney being out of the county. The students are currently on probation and will serve their time through a Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office program. (P.S.)
