(08:06) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – Santa Cruz County officials have granted nearly a dozen contracts to nonprofit organizations in an effort to reduce recidivism. On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors voted to distribute around $1.2 million to a number of groups, including United Way, Encompass Community Services, and the Community Action Board. The nonprofits will use the funds to help offenders overcome addiction as well as find housing and employment. The money was levied to Santa Cruz County through the passing of AB 109, which was implemented in 2011 to reduce prison overcrowding. (S.G.)
