June 14, 2016: Effort Launched at Carmel Beach to Protect Trout

(08:07) CARMEL – Crews have launched an effort at Carmel River State Beach to protect the endangered steelhead trout. For the next couple days, workers will be using heavy equipment to raise the sandbar and clear the channel connecting the Carmel River Lagoon to the ocean. The project is aiming to protect the freshwater habitat while also minimizing the risk of flooding. The parking lot near the lagoon will be closed for the duration of the project. The beach area will remain open, however, visitors are being asked to keep a safe distance. (S.G.)
