July 9, 2015: Lane-Splitting Bill Fails to Pass in State Senate

(08:05) SACRAMENTO – A state bill that would have regulated motorcycle lane-splitting failed to pass in the Senate this week. Currently, motorcyclists can travel between lanes without penalty. The legislation would have allowed motorcyclists to split lanes at speeds of 50 mph or lower and prohibited traveling more than 15 mph faster than surrounding traffic. The bill passed the Assembly several weeks ago. This week, the measure was unable to get enough support in the Senate. The bill will be re-introduced next year. (S.G.)
