(21:49) SANTA CRUZ – A dead bird in West Santa Cruz has tested positive for West Nile Virus. It’s the first time (this year) that the mosquito-transmitted disease has been confirmed in the county. The bird was found on the Upper West Side….near Nobel Drive. Santa Cruz County Mosquito And Vector Control technicians have been sent to the site to target mosquito-breeding sources in the area, and trap adult mosquitoes. To report dead birds or tree squirrels, people can call 1-877-wnv-bird, or go on-line to: www.westnile.ca.gov People are encouraged to drain all standing water at least once a week, as well as clearing out rain gutters, buckets, birdbaths, and pool and spa covers.
