(18:21) SOUTH MONTEREY COUNTY – After 7-years under state receivership, the South Monterey County Joint Union High School District board of trustees has largely resumed local control of its school system. A state trustee has been appointed to oversee the final phases of the transition from state control to local control….and that process can take up to 3 years. The man, who has been the sole local decision maker for the district for the last 6 years), has agreed to stay on as “acting superintendent” for 1 year, while the board conducts a search for a permanent district chief. South county will begin the 2016-17 school year with a $23 million budget, and a reserve budget of 17%.
