(08:57) SANTA CRUZ – The Santa Cruz City Schools District approved its 2016-17 budget this week. The $73.3 million spending plan is about $3 million higher than last year. The additional expenditures are expected to go towards employing additional high school text book clerks. Hiring additional workers is expected to offset the costs of lost textbooks and lighten the workload for school librarians. Following the passing of Measure O last November, the district is anticipating receiving an additional $2.4 million in tax revenue to fund athletics as well as science, technology, engineering, and after school programs at secondary schools.
