Officials say two men were in a car at the stoplight at Bay and Mission streets Monday night when they were approached by a man armed with a gun. The driver sped away, prompting the gunman to open fire on the vehicle. The driver pulled over and the two men left the car, uninjured. The gunman drove off in the vehicle and abandoned it on the Eastside later that night. The carjacker was described as a Latino male in his 20s, around 5-foot-10, and about 240 pounds with black cropped hair in the front and a ponytail. He wore a gray, zip-up sweatshirt, white shirt, tan shorts and long white socks. Anyone with information is to contact Santa Cruz police. (S.G.)
