The federal judge overseeing the criminal case against Pacific Gas & Electric Co. has cut back on his proposals to prevent the utility’s hardware from causing more wildland fires.
U-S District Judge William Alsup wrote late Tuesday that he’s considering making PG&E only comply with targets in a plan the company submitted to California regulators. Alsup had earlier said he might order more stringent requirements for the utility.
Alsup has also proposed that a court-appointed monitor oversee the utility’s efforts to clear trees and branches that could fall on its power lines and start fires.
PG&E has said it is committed to completing work required under its plan.
