A longtime columnist, and editor with the Salinas Californian newspaper, has died. Reportedly, Jim Albanese passed away at home last weekend. Albanese was probably best known for his column the “Way-back Machine….in which he shared stories of the history of Salinas (and the local area around it). Albanese, who was born in Salinas, graduated from North Salinas High School in 1966, and later from San Jose State, worked at the paper for nearly 4 decades. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, his son, and 2 grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is expected to be held at a later date.
