Hear how Jett Williams finally found out about and fought for her birthright, became a singer/songwriter, Grand Ole Opry regular, motivational speaker and caretaker of her father’s music. Jett was born five days after her father died in 1953. Relinquished by her natural mother, Bobbie Jett of Nashville, with whom Hank had been having a relationship after his marriage ended, Jett was adopted by Hank’s mother. Sadly she too soon died and the Williams family, not wanting her, gave her up for adoption. During her youth, Jett had no idea who her natural parents were, let alone that her daddy was Hank Williams, but from a very young age she demonstrated an unusual and natural talent for music, singing, and her guitar. In the early 1980’s, at the urging of her adoptive father and armed with a few facts and a little rumor, Jett set out to learn what she could about who she was.
Ruth Copland interviews Jett Williams about the remarkable story of how, after years of effort, Jett got proof that Hank Williams Sr. was her father and wanted her, and how it was proved in court that Hank’s family had denied her parentage in order to claim his considerable fortune.
