Employees of the “Janus” rehabilitation center in Santa Cruz are pounding the picket line, protesting low wages.
The non profit rehabilitation facility for substance abuse has been serving the county for 40-years but has been plagued recently with high staff turn-over and the ability to accept the growing number of drug addicted patients.
In the first quarter of this year, 93-percent of the patients had to be placed on a waiting list for inpatient treatment.
It’s not clear how much of raise employees are asking for but according to supervisor john leopold says janus may be eligible for a up to 500-thousand dollars in medi-cal funding.
