(17:55) MONTEREY BAY – 123 people were arrested during the “avoid the 20 Winter Campaign”. They were arrested for driving under the influence between December 18th and this past Sunday. Although there were 4 crashes during that time (caused by individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs), no one died in those. In 2013 alone, there were 10,076 people killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in the United States. California’s DUI deaths stood at 867 that year. The Monterey and San Benito Counties DUI Task Force (and thousands of law enforcement agencies around the country) teamed up with the NHTSA on the high-visibility enforcement campaign this year. They plan to do the same enforcement on Superbowl Sunday and Saint Patrick’s Day.
