January 19, 2016: Capitola to Crack Down on Illegal Vacation Rentals

(07:46) CAPITOLA – Capitola city officials have approved a measure that will penalize and fine illegal vacation rental operators. The city council recently voted unanimously to levy citations of up to $500 to anyone who advertises vacation rentals in incompatible neighborhoods without a city permit. The measure was proposed following complaints from long-term residents about parking, trash, and noise. Anyone interested in renting must obtain a business license and transient occupancy tax registration, and rent within the city’s designated vacation rental zone. (S.G.)
