A 1-year moratorium has been issued to insurance companies, to keep them from canceling (or not renewing) homeowner and renter policies throughout California. It states that insurance companies cannot cancel, or refuse to renew a policy for a residential property located within, or adjacent to, any zip code where a wildfire occurred (for a year after a declaration of a state of emergency there). Consumers are encouraged to check the California Department Of Insurance website, to see if their zip code is included in the moratorium.
So far this year, there have been more than 91-hundred fires in California, that have burned nearly 4.2 million acres….and destroyed or damaged 10,488 structures….and caused 31 deaths.
