A SEASIDE MAN SUFFERED SERIOUS BURNS TO HIS FACE WEDNESDAY FROM A FIRE THAT BROKE OUT WHILE MAKING HASH OIL OUTSIDE HIS HOME. THE MAN WAS AIRLIFTED TO A SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA HOSPITAL. IN A SIMILAR SITUATION ON SUNDAY, THREE MEN WERE CRITICALLY INJURED IN AN EXPLOSION IN SANTA CRUZ WHILE ALSO MAKING THE HASH OIL. OFFICIALS SAY THE OIL IS A MARIJUANA BY-PRODUCT EXTRACTED FROM PARTS OF THE PLANT THAT ARE OFTEN DISCARDED.
