A MONTEREY COUNTY BEACH HAS RE-POSTED AN ADVISORY. HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE ONCE AGAIN FOUND ELEVATED LEVELS OF BACTERIA AT THE MONTEREY MUNICIPAL BEACH.    THE ADVISORY WILL BE POSTED UNTIL SAMPLES SHOW SAFE BACTERIA LEVELS.    COUNTY OFFICIALS RECOMMEND AVOIDING CONTACT WITH THE WATER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

FOR THE SECOND TIME SINCE 2009, THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR DEPUTY SHERIFF TRAINEE. THE PROCESS IS OPEN TO THOSE NEEDING TO ATTEND THE CALIFORNIA P-O-S-T ACADEMY, CURRENTLY ATTENDING, AND THOSE WITH A BASIC ACADEMY CERTIFICATE. MONTEREY SALINAS TRANSIT MADE CHANGES TO SOME OF THEIR ROUTES, WHICH BEGAN SATURDAY, INCLUDING ADDING A NEW SAN JOSE AIRPORT EXPRESS. THE ROUTE WILL PROVIDE SERVICE FROM THE SALINAS VALLEY TO THE USO CLUB AT SAN JOSE’S MINETA AIRPORT WITH STOPS IN SOLEDAD AND SALINAS, AS WELL AS THE SAN JOSE GREYHOUND AND TRAIN STATIONS. THE BUS WILL RUN TWICE DAILY MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AND ONCE ON SUNDAYS. SANTA CRUZ OFFICERS RESPONDED TO REPORTS OF A CAR BURGLARY ON SATURDAY AROUND 11 A-M ON THE 500 BLOCK OF WATER STREET. THE VICTIMS HAD TWO CELL PHONES STOLEN THROUGH AN OPEN SUNROOF WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF PARKING. USING A THIRD FRIEND’S PHONE, OFFICERS USED GPS TRACKING TO PINPOINT ONE OF THE PHONES A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. K-9 OFFICERS WERE USED TO DETAIN AND ARREST 20 YEAR OLD TRANSIENT EVAN HUNT WHO HAD ONE OF THE PHONES AND BOLT CUTTERS. HE WAS BOOKED INTO COUNTY JAIL FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY, RESISTING ARREST, AND POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS.

SANTA CRUZ POLICE RESPONDED TO A 3 A-M ALARM AT AN OCEAN ST FLORAL SHOP ON SATURDAY TO FIND THE GLASS FRONT DOOR AND INSIDE COOLER DOORS SHATTERED. FOUR TEENS WERE ARRESTED WHEN ALERT NEIGHBORS SAW A 2006 MITSUBISHI LANCER LEAVING THE SCENE AND CALLED POLICE WITH A DESCRIPTION. OFFICERS FOUND THE CAR FILLING UP AT A NEAR-BY GAS STATION AND ARRESTED MATTHEW TIMMENY, 20; REBECKA QUEZADA, 18; AND LANDON SPEARMAN THE THIRD, ALL OF CASTRO VALLEY, AND 19 YEAR OLD DIEGO DELGADO OF SAN LEANDRO ON SUSPICION OF BURGLARY. THE FOUR, WHO HAD REPORTEDLY TRAVELED TO SANTA CRUZ FOR A PARTY, WERE FOUND WITH GLASS SHARDS IN THEIR SHOES AND STOLEN PROPERTY FROM THE FLORIST IN THE CAR.

A 29-YEAR OLD WOMAN SUSTAINED LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AFTER BEING STABBED SATURDAY MORNING. POLICE ARRIVED ON THE 3-HUNDRED BLOCK OF HILL STREET NEAR ROSEDALE AVENUE AT 5 A-M TO FIND A VICTIM SUFFERING A STAB WOUND. THE VICTIM WAS TRANSPORTED TO A SAN JOSE HOSPITAL. HER CONDITION WAS UPGRADED TO STABLED MONDAY AFTERNOON AND DETECTIVES WERE ABLE TO INTERVIEW HER. THE ASSAILANT IS REPORTEDLY KNOWN TO THE VICTIM, WHOSE NAME HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED.

A SANTA CRUZ FAMILY SHOPPING AT THE SAFEWAY ON MORRISSEY BLVD BECAME INVOLVED IN THE CHASE AND APPREHENSION OF A MAN ON SATURDAY EVENING. AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 P-M, JAMES WENTWORTH ALLEGEDLY STOLE FROM THE GROCERY STORE, FOUGHT WITH THE SECURITY GUARD, AND FLED THE SCENE. THE FAMILY REPORTEDLY WITNESSED THE INCIDENT AND CHASED HIM DOWN THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THEY DETAINED HIM UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AND MADE THE ARREST.

SANTA CRUZ FIRE RESPONDED TO AN ALERT FROM THE ALARM BOX LOCATED AT 500 WEST CLIFF DR AT APPROXIMATELY TWO FORTY-FIVE THIS AFTERNOON (MONDAY). UPON ARRIVAL, THEY FOUND A MAN WITH A BOOGIE OR SKIM BOARD STRANDED ON THE ROCKS NEAR THE STAIRS. WITHIN 10 MINUTES, RESCUE SWIMMERS BROUGHT THE MAN TO SHORE AND CLEARED THE SCENE. HE WAS UNINJURED AND DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL TREATMENT.
