AN 86 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED DURING AN ATTEMPTED STRONG ARM ROBBERY IN SANTA CRUZ.  THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON CENTER STREET NEAR CHURCH STREET WEDNESDAY THE 16TH   WHEN 2 TEENAGE MALES ATTACKED AN ELDERLY COUPLE. THE SUSPECTS KNOCKED THE WOMAN TO THE GROUND AND TRIED, UNSUCCESSFULLY TO MAKE OFF WITH HER PURSE. THE VICTIM WAS HOSPITALIZED WITH SERIOUS INURIES INCLUDING A BROKEN PELVIS. THE MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT IS ASKING THE PUBLIC’S HELP IN SHUTTING DOWN ILLEGAL COCKFIGHTING.   SOURCES  SAY THAT DURING A SEARCH OF A PRUNEDALE RESIDENCE OVER 50 FIGHTING BIRDS WERE FOUND AND TURNED OVER TO THE S-P-C-A.  A WEEK LATER, A COCKFIGHT IN PROGRESS WAS RAIDED ON LOCKWOOD-SAN LUCAS ROAD. 40 FIGHT GOERS FLED ON FOOT LEAVING THEIR VEHICLES BEHIND. 20 DEAD AND 14 GRAVELY WOUNDED FIGHTING ROOSTERS WERE TURNED OVER TO THE S-P-C-A.    ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ON THESE EVENTS ARE URGED TO CONTACT THE MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT.

MARINA POLICE DETECTIVES ARRESTED A COUPLE IN TACOMA WASHINGTON LAST WEEK.   MARINA INVESTIGATORS AIDED BY TACOMA OFFICERS ARRESTED 33 YEAR OLD BRANDON KEARNEY AND 31 YEAR OLD CHRISTINA KEARNEY IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEATH OF THE COUPLES 19 MONTH OLD SON. THE COUPLE IS NOW AWAITING EXTRADITION TO MONTEREY COUNTY TO FACE FELONY CHILD ABUSE CHARGES.

A WATSONVILLE MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED AFTER DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE AND LEADING POLICE ON A PURSUIT. OFFICERS SPOTTED 26-YEAR-OLD BERNARDO MEDINA-GARCIA DRIVING ERRATICALLY NEAR PORTER DRIVE AND SAN JUAN ROAD SHORTLY BEFORE 9 P-M YESTERDAY (THUR).   MEDINA NEARLY COLLIDED WITH SEVERAL CARS AS HE LED POLICE ON A CHASE THROUGH THE CITY.   THE SUSPECT DEAD-ENDED IN A PARKING LOT ON LAS LOMAS DRIVE.   MEDINA AND TWO PASSENGERS GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE.    THE THREE MEN, IDENTIFIED AS NORTENO GANG MEMBERS, WERE ARRESTED ON VARIOUS CHARGES INCLUDING VIOLATION OF PROBATION AND D-U-I.
