Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the impending epidemics of arthritis and back pain.  Contending this is a doctor caused epidemic because people followed bad advice of taking pharmaceutical drugs and surgeries.  Outlining the results of a Harvard medical school study that found surgery for back, hip and knee pain us useless.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning private practitioner going broke.  Apparently many private practice family physicians, cardiologists and oncologists are struggling financially.  Mainly because of the 35 to 40% cuts in Medicare reimbursements to doctors.  Medicare has also cut reimbursements on expensive cancer treatment drugs.  Which used to be a cash cow for oncologists who would buy these drugs cheaply in bulk from drug companies.  Then they would charge their patients huge prices for the same drugs.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a Dr. Lee whom Chinese officials claim live to be 256 years old.  Doc asserts this may or may not be true but contends it could be possible.  Because the province this doctor was from is known to be rich in rare earth minerals and nutrients.  Stating that the cultures who have long lived peoples are in third world areas without healthcare and doctors.  Citing statistics of how many Americans are killed, injured and infected every year in the U.S.


Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss "doctors behaving badly".  Doug cites four different stories of doctors doing stupid things such as two different doctors in  different parts of the world burned initials into patients.  One burning the intitials of his alma mater "UK" (University of Kentucky) into the uterus of nine different women.  Another doctor in the UK burned his own intitials into a patients liver to be later found by another surgeon.  One doctor carved his intitials into abdomen of a fellow doctor following a C-section.  Finally a doctor lost his license for leaving a patient during a complicated surgery to go cash his paycheck.

Dr. Wallach starts the show disucssing the importance of preparedness.  Whether it be from natural disaster, politcal disaster or any other type of disaster.  Contending everyone should be preparded by getting "Go Foods" from Youngevity, nutritional supplements and medical supplies as well as emergency water.  Asserting that's it's not a matter of if a disaster will strike but rather when one will occur.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing longevity.  Contending that cultures who have long lived peoples have 25 common threads.  Explaining that telomeres at the ends of chromosomes begin to shorten until they get to the point where cells don't regenerate any longer.  Stating that Youngevity is putting together a product that will nutriate these telomeres and slow their shortening.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study of the practice of taking an aspirin a day.  This practice has been tauted by MDs since the 1980s offering it as a way to prevent future heart attacks.  The study found that although taking aspirin may prevent some heart attacks over a 10 year period.  In the same period 46 to 49 major bleeds and 68 to 117 gastrointestinal bleeds occurred.

Dr. Wallach starts the show today discussing congenital birth defects.  Contending congential deafness is a manganese deficiency.  Asserting spinabifida is a preconception folic acid and zinc deficiency.  Also outlining several other common birth defects and the nutrient deficiencies he believes are the causes.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent U.S. study that found a link between the GlaxoSmithKline H1N1 flu vaccine and narcolepsy.  The article also states that studies in Britain, Finland, Sweden and Ireland found similar links between the vaccine and narcolepsy.  GlaxoSmithKline also admits they are aware of at least 900 cases in children in Europe alone.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing various congenital birth defects.  Asserting many of these occur because nutrients were missing in the mother's diet either during conception or gestation.  Outlining the nutrients that are missing and the corresponding birth defects.  Also citing several mistakes that occur with prescription drugs either wrong dosages, wrong medications or drug interactions.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a medical mistake.  That occurred involving a 13 year old girl who is now brain dead.  The tonselectomy seemingly went well but soon after the surgery the girl started bleeding.  Then went into cardiac arrest that deprived her brain of oxygen.  Ultimately leaving her brain dead with the hospital wanting to stop life support.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing an editorial from the Annals of Internal Medicine.  Stating that the studies cited in the article don't say which multivitamins were taken or which vitamins were used in the studies.  Asserting that these researchers can't just "cherry pick" a couple of nutrients.  Contending the human body needs 90 essential nutrients for opitmal health.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach continue discussing the editorial from the Annals of Internal Medicine.  Doug points out that one of the studies cited in the editorial is inconclusive.  Because more than half of the study participants dropped out before the study was over.  While another one of the studies was a meta-analysis of several other studies.  Mainstream medical experts often dispute meta-analysis studies because the are not "gold standard" double blind studies.
