Dr. Wallach starts the show with a brief overview of his "Immortality" book. Outlining how some cultures live much longer than Americans. He explains that differences in diet, lifestyle and nutritional supplementation is the reason why these cultures live long lives. Also asserting that the medical systems approach to health is all wrong.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story regarding acid reflux drugs. The consumer group "Public Citizen" is petitioning the FDA to put a black box warning on proton pump inhibitor drugs. Contending that in some healthy patients the drug is known to actually cause acid reflx. In fact it's been known since 2009 that over two thirds of people taking these drugs fail to meet the diagnostic criteria. This class of drugs has the second highest retail sails in the U.S. and in 2008 totalled $4.8 billion.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing some of the history of science. Where science and the "powers that be" thought the world was flat and that your heart would explode if you traveled faster than 40mph. Then doc asserts that the same is true with medical doctors when they first discoverd bacteria all disease this must be the cause. Then after the discovery of viruses then that was the cause of everything. Once genetics were discovered then that was the cause of all disease. Doc asserts now they are finding that is now wrong.

 

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of sugary soda drinks. The study found that those drinking at least one sugary drink daily increased their risk of kidney stones by 33%. Punch drinkers increased their risk by 18%. While those drinking coffee, tea, wine, beer, and orange juice lowered their risk of kidney stones.

Contending these are caused by nutritional deficiencies and can be prevented and symptoms reversed. Citing the specific nutrients that are deficient and which disease states they are correlated.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study of ADHD. The study found patients given a cocktail of high-dose B vitamin had less grey matter loss than those given a placebo. The study participants were give vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid and followed for two years.

Asserting that when people sweat they're not just losing water but rather a soup of nutrients mostly minerals. Adding that if athletes only replenish with water they are leaving themselves open to many chronic health challenges.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of men with ADHD. Researchers who were studying ADHD patients found after following the group for over 40 years a correlation with obesity. Men who were diagnosed with ADHD early in life were twice as likely to be obese than men not diagnosed with ADHD.

The initiative would start a program that would randomly give medical doctors drug and alcohol tests. This is something Dr. Wallach has been calling for for many many years.
