Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a statement recently made by a former Noble Peace Prize co-winner. James Watson stated gene sequencing for treating cancer is useless. Contending that most of studies and research currently being performed to treat chronic diseases are also worthless.

Citing that an estimated 79 million Americans that have prediabetes and 90% don't realize they have the disease. The report also found that people taking medications for high blood pressure or high cholesterol were more likely they to know they have prediabetes.

Dr. Wallach starts the show with a brief overview of his "Immortality" book. Outlining how some cultures live much longer than Americans. He explains that differences in diet, lifestyle and nutritional supplementation is the reason why these cultures live long lives. Also asserting that the medical systems approach to health is all wrong.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story regarding acid reflux drugs. The consumer group "Public Citizen" is petitioning the FDA to put a black box warning on proton pump inhibitor drugs. Contending that in some healthy patients the drug is known to actually cause acid reflx. In fact it's been known since 2009 that over two thirds of people taking these drugs fail to meet the diagnostic criteria. This class of drugs has the second highest retail sails in the U.S. and in 2008 totalled $4.8 billion.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discovering a news article concerning James Watson. He was one of the two men who won a Nobel Peace Prize for discovering the structure of DNA. Recently in speech he stated that gene sequencing to treat cancer is "irrelevant". Doc asserts that he wrote a book in 1963 basically stating the same thing.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article on whether or not kids need multivitamins. The expert quoted Dr. Manny Alvarez stated that with kids eating "fortified foods" there really isn't a need for children to supplement because they get all the nutrients they need from foods. Doc disagrees asserting that "fortified foods" generally only add one or two nutrients and children need all 90 essential nutrients not just two.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing Celiac disease and the health benefits of a gluten free diet. Explaining that Celiac isn't a wheat allergy but more an intolerance. This intolerance manifests as an inflammatory reaction comparing it to a reaction to poison oak or ivy.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study on obesity. Researchers looked at differences between body temperatures of lean dogs compared to obese dogs. Finding the obese dogs had lower body temperatures leading the study authors to believe that the obese dogs were expending less energy to stay warm. Doc disagrees and contends that weight gain and obestiy are the result of nutritional deficiencies.

Contending this occurs despite a billionare's financial ability to get the best doctors and foods. Asserting the reason they don't live longer is because their doctors give them wrong advice.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study on sugar-sweetened drinks linked to early death. The study from the Harvard School of Public Health links drinking sugar-sweetened to obesity related deaths. The researchers found a link between 180,000 deaths and drinking sugared drinks. Meaning one in every 100 obesity related deaths is caused by drinking sugary beverages.
