Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the relationship between exercising and good health. Citing the story of Jim Fixx the athlete credited with starting the jogging craze that started in the late 60s. Outlining how Fixx was against vitamin and mineral supplementation contending that good health came from exercise alone. Doc asserts that exercise without supplementation is "suidcide". Asserting when athletes sweat it's not just water but a soup of nutrients that if not replaced poor health is bound to follow.
Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article that "vindicates" the Doc. A report commisioned by the CDC states that Americans still consume too much salt but also state that low salt diets do not show a beneifit. In fact a low salt diet has now been linked to an increased risk to insulin insesnitivity which translates as a big risk factor for all diseases of old age. Also low salt intake in one study was linked to a 300% more readmissions to hospitals and twice as many deaths.
