Man Dies While in Custody 10/8/12 9.45a AF

A man died unexpectedly on Saturday, after being taken into custody by California Highway Patrol.      59-year-old Aptos resident Rickey Pritchard was awaiting processing at Santa Cruz County jail around 6:30 am when be began suffering from an unknown illness.    Efforts were made by on-site medical staff to resuscitate the man, but Pritchard died on the scene.    An autopsy is scheduled for this week to determine Pritchard's cause of death.
