Increased Numbers Of Baby Starfish Have Central Coast Marine Researchers Optimistic -05/10/15-0708-PMD

Increased numbers of baby Starfish have Central Coast marine researchers optimistic. Over the past two years, a mysterious wasting disease has killed millions of the invertebrates, decimating 20 different species on the west coast. This year marine experts have seen unprecedented populations of baby starfish. Experts say that the mass reproductive effort is a characteristic seen in invertebrates that have suffered catastrophic population losses. It is unknown if the disease is still present, researchers will now be monitoring the young starfish mortality rate to determine if the disease is still present and whether the species will make a comeback.
