Animal welfare advocates this week shared 30 illegal rooster locations in Monterey County. Members of the group “Showing Animals Respect and Kindness” presented the information to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.
The group has a drone video showing hundreds of roosters at the illegal sites.
The country grand jury this summer estimated there 1,000 illegal rooster sites in the county. The large number of roosters suggests illegal cock fighting.
Under Monterey County ordinance, residents are allowed to have no more than five roosters without a permit. KION Television reports there are currently no active permits in Monterey County.
