The hyperbaric chamber in Pacific Grove that has been closed since last June could be reopened by the end of spring. The chamber, which is used to treat divers with decompression sickness, or what is more commonly referred to as “the bends” was closed last summer due to insufficient liability insurance. The local diving community warned of the dangers of not having such a facility operational. Divers with the bends can suffer serious injury if not treated quickly, or even death. The hyperbaric chamber is also an effective treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning.
