officials at the monterey county public works department expect work on the san benancio road – highway 68 junction to be complete by the end of the month. original plans called for the nearly 5-million dollar project to be completed by december of 2011, but new p.g.&e. restrictions on projects near gas lines delayed the construction. when the improvement project is complete, westbound highway 68 will have 2 left turn lanes onto san benancio road, in place of a single lane. the improvements are aimed to alleviate congestion near san benancio middle school in morning and afternoon hours.
