Most wildfires in the U. S. are caused by humans. Since 1944, Smokey the Bear has been saying “only you can prevent forest fires.” The Soberanes fire in Big Sur burned 132- thousand acres. The source of the fire was found to be an illegal campfire in Garrapata State Park. Scientists have found that from 1992 to 2012, 84% of wildfires are started by people. People are moving more and more into natural wild areas and igniting wildfires. One of every five wildfires occur on the fourth of July started by fireworks
