Santa cruz city leaders are proposing an increase in the city’s hotel tax. 3 city council members have already publicly endorsed the move, which would raise the “transient occupancy tax” from 10-percent to 12-percent of visitors’ hotel bills. The increase would raise an estimated 9-hundred thousand dollars annually. Tuesday, the city council is set to discuss putting the proposal before voters in November. Santa cruz county leaders are considering a similar move, (which is expected to be addressed in august).
