A HOMELESS COMMUNITY HAS SET UP CAMP NEAR NORTH MAIN STREET OFF OF HIGHWAY 101 IN SALINAS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES DO NOT WANT THEM THERE. ON THURSDAY SOME SEVEN TENTS OCCUPIED THE OPEN FIELD ACROSS FROM BRIDGE STREET BUSINESSES, AND A LOT OF ILLEGAL ACTIVITY IS BEING REPORTED. THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES ARE COLLABORATING WITH SAN BENITO COUNTY IN EFFORTS TO DEVELOP A SOLUTION. MONTEREY COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES IS HOSTING A MEETING NEXT WEEK TO TALK ABOUT A NEW PLAN TO HELP THE HOMELESS FIND SHELTER
