Salinas City Council members are expected to decide today if they want to ask for state assistance in dealing with their homeless crisis. Calculations show that just over a thousand people are without permanent shelter in Salinas, and there are not enough shelter beds in the city. Earlier this year, 500 million dollars of the state budget was allotted to emergency aid for local governments.
Salinas is in 1, of 43, regional districts that qualify for funding from the Continuums Of Care program. Today’s city council meeting is slated to take place in Salinas City Hall.
